Decaf Vanilla Black combines the pure, sugary-spicy flavor of vanilla with bright Ceylon decaffeinated black tea from Sri Lanka. Soothing, sweet and very 'beany' vanilla fragrance (like warm sugar cookies made with fresh vanilla beans). Very well-blended and pleasant astringency in the finish. A gentle, natural decaffeination process retains the delicate shape and flavor of the tea leaves. This decaf tea is decaffeinated using the superior carbon dioxide (CO2) process, which retains the most flavor and antioxidants.

Vanilla pods are the fruit of vanilla orchids. Before they can be used, however, they must first go through an extensive four-step curing process. The four steps are killing, which stops vegetative growth; sweating, which helps bring out the vanilla’s aroma and flavor; drying, which prevents rot and seals aroma; and conditioning, which matures the aroma. Pods are then graded according to length, physical quality, and moisture content. Whole, plump pods with a nice sheen and high moisture content are used for culinary purposes, while “cuts,” or pieces trimmed from larger pods, are used for extracts and perfumes.
