INFUSION: Green INFORMATION: Did you know that the country of Brazil has the largest population of Japanese people outside of Japan? Beginning in the early years of the 20th century, thousands of Japanese immigrants made their way to the Portuguese speaking country to seek their fortune, finding jobs in the large agricultural economy there. Naturally, as with all immigrants to countries around the world, the Japanese made almost as much of an imprint on their adopted homeland as it did on them. So, why are we talking about Japanese immigration to Brazil? The answer is that the country also happens to be home to the fabulous Mate we've used to expand the character of this Matcha. (And Matcha, as tea lovers know, is from Japan.) It should come as no surprise that our inspiration for developing this innovative brew came from a visit to Brazil made by our Supplier's Master Blender many years ago. It was the 1970's and he had gone down to source black teas from a grower, who as fate would have it, was a Japanese Brazilian. In addition to his black tea crop, the grower also kept a small plot of Mate behind his house for personal use. Our Supplier's Master Blender tried a cup and was hooked. Many years later, when we began selling our own premium matchas, our Supplier's Master Blender's thoughts turned to the Japanese Brazilian grower he had met decades in the past, and decided to craft a matcha / mate blend in his honor. The result is the tea you are now holding. Grassy, bright and invigorating, we invite you to brew a cup and dream of far away, much warmer places. Did you know: On a gram / gram basis, Matcha contains approximately 10 x the polyphenols of regular teas? Why? Unlike other teas, with Matcha, the leaves themselves are consumed. STEEPING TIME
SERVING RECOMMENDATIONS:
IDEAL BREWING TEMPERATURE: 85ºC/185ºF. For Food Safety reasons bring water to 100ºC/212ºF and let it cool down to 85ºC/185ºF. HOT BREWING METHOD: Bring filtered or freshly drawn water to a rolling boil and let cool to roughly 180'F/82'C. Place approximately half a teaspoon of Matcha in your cup. Infuse with 8oz/250ml of water, whisk briskly and enjoy. FOOD SAFETY ADVISORY: We strongly recommend using filtered or freshly drawn cold water brought to a rolling boil when brewing all types of tea. Today's water has been known to carry viruses, parasites and bacteria. Boiling the water will kill these elements and reduce the potential incidence of water-borne illnesses. RECOMMENDATION: We recommend the use of our '1 Cup of Perfect Tea' measuring spoon for best results. Please contact Blue Monkey Tea to place an order. ANTIOXIDANT BENEFIT: For a greater antioxidant benefit brew longer and use more tea. |
